5 Things Every Bride Should know about choosing the best photo booth
Choosing a quality photo booth for the most important day of your life is a huge task. With so many companies out there offering slightly different products at different price points, it is hard to weigh up the options. We have a lot of customers coming to us, not knowing how to judge a quality photo booth company. There are a lot of great photo booth companies out there, and some that aren’t so good. We have been in the business for 5 years, so we know quite a lot about what makes an excellent photo booth experience. To help you in your search, we have compiled a list of things to look for or consider when choosing the right company for your special day:
#1 Is the booth equipped with GOOD LIGHTING?
This is probably the most important factor in determining how good the photos will turn out. Having a great camera, DSLR or not, makes no difference if the lighting is not up to scratch. Make sure they use neutral, front-on, bright lighting. Lighting affects clarity and colour, and also how fast the shutter moves. For the most flattering results, studio lighting with a diffusing umbrella will make everyone look as glam as a Kardashian. We use soft spotlights which are also very effective.
#2 Do they have LIVE VIEW?
Live View allows your guests to see themselves as they pose in the booth. Our customers always give feedback about how much fun our photo booth is. One reason is because guests enjoy seeing themselves acting silly in front of a big screen with their friends and family. Only a small number of photo booth companies offer this feature. One reason they don’t is because, to run live view, the computer in the booth must have a huge processor, especially if a high fidelity camera is being used. Computers like this can cost a lot and can be bulky. We use the newest generation Apple MAC hardware to run the highest functioning automatic photo processing software, hooked up to a Canon DLSR. This guarantees perfect Live View without any delay, and very few glitches throughout the night when the machine is working hard to capture hundreds of photos.
#3 Do they have a BIG SCREEN?
As well as lacking Live View, many photo booth companies use small screens in their set up. The reason for this is that they are cheaper and easier to transport, and harder to damage. We truly believe that the most fun part of any photo booth experience is seeing yourself during the image capture. While it can be interesting to have a “blind” shot with no one seeing the result until the image is printed, we have seen people enjoy watching themselves on screen as they pose. If fun is important to you, we recommend asking the question to find a quality photo booth.
#4 HOW MANY PEOPLE FIT IN THE BOOTH?
Most guests are going to want to take shots in couples, threes or fours. The photo booth your choose should be at least big enough to allow for this. Seated booths will normally only take two people, so please keep that in mind. At some point in the night, a big group of jolly family members with a couple of drinks under their belt, will want to take a shot altogether. These are the moments you really want to embrace and capture as they are the ones which you and your loved ones will cherish forever. Our quality photo booth fits up to 8 people comfortably, but it has been known to accomodate up to 13 people! If you are hiring a booth to inspire mingling amongst your guests, make sure the booth fits more than a few people.
#5 Is it AUTOMATIC?
Photo booths are automatic by definition. Just like taking a selfie with a smartphone, taking a photo in a photo booth should be controlled by guests. While it is a good idea to have an assistant present to help guests should they need it, it is more fun for guests if they can jump into the booth and take the shot themselves. If the equipment is automatic, easy to use and reliable, this usually means you can get away with not hiring an attendant, which also saves you paying for a vendor meal at the venue too. In our All-Night Package, we offer a discounted rate with longer hire time if you opt out of having an attendant. Most of our customers now choose this option as our equipment is extremely reliable and easy for guests to use, even after a few drinks. If cost and functionality are important to you, please ask the question.
